Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center Recognizes Volunteers

Posted: Updated:

The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg celebrated some of its unsung heroes Tuesday.

The medical center hosted its 62nd annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. Members of the center's paid-staff waited the tables of the volunteers, and even Director Beth Brown served food. One official said it was important to recognize the volunteers because of their contributions to the Medical Center's success.

"In the last year, our volunteers have provided over 59,000 hours to our medical center, our community-based outpatient clinics, and the national cemetery," said Thomas Gallagher, chief of Voluntary Service. "So we really could not provide the quality patient care that we do without the help of the volunteers."

The number of volunteer hours are equal to more than $1 million in salary the center would have had to pay staff.
