Pro Wrestlers Talk Education at Fairmont Middle School

Posted: Updated:

Professional wrestlers sometimes have the reputation for being meat heads, but one local middle school saw a different side of these athletes.

Wrestlers from KYDA Pro Wrestling came to West Fairmont Middle School Thursday to urge students to stay in school. They also promoted Friday evening's fundraising event, which will feature six matches, including a match pitting the school's P.E. teacher against the vice principal. Friday's event will be more than entertainment, however.

"We're telling personal stories about how you have to be persistent, because there's nothing you can't do, and that's the message we're trying to bring," said Joe Brooks, a professional wrestler. "And tomorrow, we actually have a show here tomorrow night at 7:30, as a fundraiser for the school."

"I would like the money to go to Science Honorary to help it benefit young scientists," said Alex Billiris, WFMS student.

Tickets for the event currently cost $5, but will be $8 at the door.
