Jackson's Mill VFD to Receive $6,000 to Purchase New Equipment

Posted: Updated:

The Jackson's Mill Volunteer Fire Department is getting some help in purchasing new equipment.

The Lewis County Commission is giving the department $6,000 toward the purchase of a new fire engine.

The new vehicle will replace a 20-year-old engine currently in use at the department.

The commission provides money for each department on a rotating basis, and said the money improves both fire coverage, and costs for homeowners.

"And so it's to the benefit of all the tax payers all over the county for each one of these fire departments to keep their equipment up, keep the newest equipment they can. It's not a matter of these guys wanting a new red fire truck to run around in, it's a matter of insurance purposes," said Pat Boyle, of the Lewis County Commission.

The department expects to have the new truck on hand around May 15.
