White Hall Town Council, Businesses Seek Agreement

Posted: Updated:

Members of the White Hall Town Council and the business community met on Wednesday to discuss other options of ways the town can increase revenue.

Last January, the town proposed a public safety building fee for fire and police protection services. The ordinance would increase fees for businesses by 1,000 percent.

The business community brought several other ideas and options to the table, such as raising fees for business licenses, increasing sales tax, and possible yearly fees for business owners.

The one thing that both sides can agree on is that they want to make it easy for everyone, with the least amount of damage.

White Hall Mayor Jesse Corley is hopeful about the situation.

"Things will get worked out, the business community brought a lot of good ideas in and it was a positive meeting," said Corley.

The money gained from these changes will go to the police department to be used towards hiring two additional full time police officers. The town would also like to build a public safety building in the future.
