West Virginia's 150th birthday is coming up quickly and many areas around the state are finding ways to celebrate.

The Marion County Historical Society was planning to invite the community to have cake on the lawn and call it a day. But that changed quickly.

Many Marion County organizations have come together to make the day a huge celebration, county wide.

"This group is reenergized. They want to do a lot more on the Marion County Courthouse steps and in the lawn. They have a lot of activities. They want to reach out to the 10 communities in Marion County to celebrate West Virginia's 150th birthday," said Randy Elliot, Marion County Commissioner.

A Fairmont Group meets at the Gatherings every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. to discuss West Virginias birthday celebration as well as other ways to bring Fairmont back to life.
