The Barbour County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal vehicle accident that happened on U.S. 119 in Volga around 7:55 a.m. Tuesday.

A Ford Tempo driven by Larry T. Vincent, 50, was headed northbound on U.S. 119 when his car collided with a school bus head-on that was traveling southbound after dropping off students at Volga Century Elementary School.

Vincent crossed the center lane of traffic and the bus driver attempted to veer away from Tempo by running the bus into the ditch, according to the Barbour County Sheriff's Department. Vincent was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner. The bus driver didn't sustain any injuries and there weren't any students on the bus at the time of the accident.

West Virginia State Police, Philippi Volunteer Fire Department, and Philippi EMS also responded to the scene.
