Working on a vehicle along the highway is always dangerous and we want to help you stay safe

Monongalia County 911 said staying in your car and calling for help is your best option.

It recommends calling courtesy patrol, state police, or another assistance agency.

But if you need to get out of your vehicle, do it safely.

"Make sure you're wearing high visibility clothing, so people do see you. Pull off as far as you can away from the main traffic flow, and try not to put yourself between the on coming traffic in the roadway, if you can use the vehicle as a shield," said Mike Wolfe, of MECCA 911.

The courtesy patrol is available to help stranded vehicles, at 888-359-3683.

Also, if you see a car along the shoulder, slow down and try to move over if you can.
