    The National Park Foundation awarded $504,000 in grants to 28 national parks across the United States and the Virgin Islands, including one in West Virginia, through its Park Stewards Program.

    The Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the West Virginia Master Naturalist program, in conjunction with Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, is sponsoring a “Moth Watch” outing on Blennerhassett Island July 27. Participants will board the Island Belle sternwheeler at 7 p.m. for a river trip to the island.

Participants will board the Island Belle sternwheeler at 7 p.m. for a river trip to the island. 

CAIRO, WV – The 19th annual Bluegrass Festival at North Bend State Park features seven bands over a two-day period, May 10-11.

Bluegrass weekends are popular across the United States, from Kentucky, Tennessee and Pennsylvania, to "Pickin' in Parsons" in West Virginia. 

"We're not the biggest festival, but the talent and music is great. It is a family atmosphere and the price is reasonable," said Ken Zebo, activities coordinator at the state park located in Ritchie County.

The festival will take place at North Bend's amphitheater. Seating is available, or attendees may bring a chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the bands play in Shelter #3 nearby.  The festival also includes craft vendors and concessions.A refreshment concession on site helps support the park expenses for this event; however, coolers are permitted, but alcohol is not. 

A Friday-only ticket is $10 and a Saturday-only ticket is $25 per person and available at North Bend Lodge or the event gate. Overnight packages are available at the park lodge and cabins as well as a camping rate that includes festival and campsite.

North Bend Bluegrass Festival Bands are: May 10 – The Hart Brothers, Remington Ryde, The Hillbilly Gypsies and Carolina Road;  May 11 - Buddy Griffin and Ashley Messenger, Carolina Road, Buck and Company, Remington Ryde, The Hart Brothers, The Sheppard Brothers, Johnny Staats& The Delivery Boys, The Hillbilly Gypsies. The master of ceremonies is Butch Sheppard.
