BUCKHANNON -

The Buckhannon Police Department is accepting applications for its inaugural youth police academy.

The academy will give middle school and high school students an overview on what the police do on a day-to-day basis.

The students will review equipment and common traffic violations.

They'll also participate in mock traffic stops, radar runs, and a crime scene investigation.

"We have a lot of programs already, we're already active with the youth in our community and schools, and I thought this was nice progression for the department to continue our active police activities for our youth," said Chief Matt Gregory, of the Buckhannon Police Department.

The deadline for applications is June 10.

The academy will run July 15 through 19 for middle school students and July 22 through 29 for high school students.
