Stonewall Resort Hosts Charity Golf Tourney For WVU

Sarah Yost is a professional golfer, but the idea for Thursday's golf tournament at Stonewall Resort came to her after WVU Children's Hospital became a personal cause for her and her family.

"My husband and I started this tournament. Five years ago, our son was born three months premature, and we had a wonderful experience at WVU Children's Hospital," said Yost.

The tournament was sponsored by the local chapter of the American Association of Professional Landmen, and Yost said the oil and gas industry has been a big part of the success of the tournament since it began five years ago.

Stonewall Resort golf pro Randy Hernly said they've enjoyed supporting the event and are happy to play a role.

"We have to be involved in our community, and I think it's very important to our entire staff, it's very important to Benchmark Hospitality, our management company, to be involved in what we do in West Virginia," said Hernly.

Golfers could join Yost on the second hole of the course in a "beat the pro" event for an extra donation. Yost said this year's event has already raised more than $30,000 for the hospital to purchase equipment to help other families through the worries the Yosts faced five years ago.

"He spent the first hundred days of his life in the hospital, and since then they've seen us through brain surgeries, eye surgeries, lots of different illnesses, so we have a lot of respect for the people who work within that hospital and what they do for the community," Yost said.
