Barrackville Elementary/Middle School Students Prepare for WESTEST

Posted: Updated:

The WESTEST is a custom-designed assessment for West Virginia students that measures levels of performance in several subjects.

Barrackville Elementary Middle School brought in former Fairmont State University Athletic Director Rusty Elliott to pump up its students for the test.

He talked to students about every day situations like preparing for a big game or performing in the band for the first time.

He said testing is like those events.

"You can get nervous. Sometimes teachers make it nervous for little kids. I have a little brother and he is nervous because it's his first year taking it. He is just not sure what to think. I just tell him he needs to go in there and try your best," said Christa Tobin, eighth grader.

The assessment results provide information about a student's academic strengths, as well as areas that need improvement.
