The mayor of Belington has stepped down after calls for his resignation started last week.

Mayor Jody Haller was asked to resign after he moved outside of the city borders.

The city's charter states that mayors must remain a resident of the city while in office.

Belington City Council met in an emergency meeting Friday morning, where they accepted Haller's resignation.

The Council voted unanimously to name City Clerk and Recorder Susan Bradley as interim mayor.

A new mayor will be named at the next council meeting on Thursday.
