Fire departments from Marion and Harrison counties responded to the scene of an abandoned house fire in Four States on Monday.

Marion County 911 said it happened around 5:20 p.m. on Shanty Lane.

The Worthington Fire Department said the fire, which had fully engulfed the structure and was discovered by a neighbor, appeared to be suspicious.

The Assistant State Fire Marshal Mackey Ayersman was at the scene Tuesday trying to locate witnesses.  The suspicious blaze has been ruled an arson, Ayersman said.

The house had not been lived in for a few years and no utilities were on at the time. According to Ayersman, the house is a total loss.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department and fire departments from Shinnston, Mannington, and Farmington also responded to the fire.
