BRIDGEPORT -

The Benedum Airport Authority has approved a new restaurant to fill the vacant space at the North Central West Virginia Airport.

The authority voted to allow airport director Rick Rock to move forward with negotiating rent with Robert Haislip.

Haislip owned Roberto's located in the Johnson Center Plaza across from Sheetz in Bridgeport. Roberto's was affected by the fire at the plaza on April 17.

Haislip will move Roberto's into the restaurant space at the airport.

"When this happened with my restaurant, I started weighing my options and thinking, ‘Well maybe I can go back to work somewhere, or what am I going to do.' I really didn't want a career change, so I knew this was available and I jumped on the opportunity. With the development of the airport in the next 10 months, I think I'll get to pay a crucial part in that," said Haislip.

Haislip said he hopes to open in the next month or two.
