Two people were injured Thursday morning after a two-vehicle accident in Fairmont.

Marion County 911 said it happened around 8 a.m. on Locust Avenue.

An 18-year-old woman was traveling on Locust Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle, went into the opposing lane, and hit another car, according to the sheriff's department. Emergency crews had to extricate her out of the vehicle.

Healthnet initially responded, but it could not fly the victim due to weather conditions, so the Marion County Rescue Squad transported her via ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital, according to the rescue squad.

The sheriff's department said the woman sustained significant injures, including head trauma. The rescue squad said the woman was not wearing a seat belt. Her name is not being released at this time.

The sheriff's department said the driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to Fairmont General Hospital.

Officials are not sure if weather was a factor.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department is investigating. Fire departments from Monongah, Barracksville, and Worthington also responded to the accident.
