Buckhannon-Upshur track and field star Mercedes Dowell will continue her career at Marshall.
She signed her national letter of intent on Thursday.
Dowell is one of the state's top shot-put and discuss throwers. She said staying home in West Virginia was important in her decision to attend Marshall.
She also believed Marshall has the best track and field program in the state. Dowell said competing at the next level has been what she's worked for.
"I always wanted too, that was my goal starting out in middle school. I was always ahead a little in middle school so when I come to high school I got myself a good and worked really hard to be able to go to college and do this," Dowell explained.
