Nearly 600 students from Randolph County learned how the oil and gas industry works.

Eleven industry representatives participated in the career day opportunities event.

This career day event is part of the Energy Speaks Education initiative.

It's aimed to help educate high school students about career opportunities and to provide information regarding the oil and natural gas industry in the region.

"We want to make sure our kids understand the importance of what's going to be here and that they have job opportunities so today we're talking to eighth and ninth graders about jobs that will be available for them in eight to 10 years," said Susan Lavenski, Energy Speaks chairperson.

The career day event was sponsored by The Just Beneath The Surface Alliance.

The alliance's purpose is to provide factual information about the natural gas industry.
