'Hope 4 Hunter' Campaign Raises Money For A Good Cause

One local community came together on Saturday to show support for a small boy with a life threatening disease.

Hunter Beam, 3, of Kingwood was diagnosed with type two Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) last June.

MPS is a rare genetic disease that affects approximately 2000 people worldwide.

"There's a lot of different rare genetic disorders. So you do know about them and we want everybody to know what MPS is, because if you know what MPS is you can spread awareness which may lead to more doctors doing research," said Michele Hoffman, Hunter's aunt.

The 'Hope 4 Hunter' campaign held a cash bash to raise money for and bring awareness to the National Mucopolysacchridosis Society.

"If we don't find a cure for this disease it's estimated that Hunter will no longer be able to walk at some point in his life. He will have to be tracked by the time he's 7 or 8," said Hoffman said. "At some point, I don't want to say my nephew has MPS I want to say my nephew had MPS."

The event raised money for research and for other families affected by the disease.

You can learn more about MPS and about the disease at their website.
