Clear Mountain Bank Holds Second Annual Hard Drive Shred Day

MORGANTOWN -

With technology being such an important part in today's society, identity theft can be a big issue.

One local bank knows how serious that is and wanted to show the public how to prevent it.

Everyone has that old laptop, hard drive, or other electronic device that they just don't know what to do with.

Clear Mountain Bank and PC Renewal had the perfect solution, and hosted it's second annual Hard Drive Shred Day.

The community can bring things they don't know how to dispose of such as computer towers, laptops, and even VCR tapes.

More than 50 people came out for the event.

The bank uses the event as a community outreach program and to make sure their clients don't dispose of their hard drives the wrong way.

"It's a protective measure for our customers. We've had people bring this up in the past," said Michael Vira, the Morgantown Clear Mountain Bank Manager. "You hear people,  'I have all this computer hardware and I don't know how to exactly dispose of it.' It was something that came up during meetings of how to give back to the community so it seemed like a good idea."

PC Renewal recycles all of the scraps from the shredded hard drives.
