Harrison County -

Some Harrison County municipal elections are upon us, and voters are getting the chance to meet the candidates.

On Monday night, a 'Meet the Candidates' forum was held on Monday at Salem International University.

The Salem Chamber of Commerce hosted the forum, which allowed the citizens to ask the candidates questions and for the candidates to address the issues of the city.

"Over the past few years, there have been a few little stumbles that the city has had as a municipality. The idea was to get people in a casual environment, let them see the issues, let them see the candidates, and make an informed decision. The unique thing about this format is there were a lot of questions. The question section went on quite for a long time," said Dr. Joseph Audia with the Salem Chamber of Commerce.

There are 14 people running for Salem Town Council positions, including three for mayor.

Clarksburg also held a meet and greet for the candidates on Monday at the Harrison County Senior Citizens Center.

There are 13 candidates for Clarksburg City Council, and three for Clarksburg Water Board.

A representative from the center explained why it was important to host it there.

"We're an integral part of downtown. Our members here account for a lot of the traffic, like going to the courthouse, to city hall, social security," said Bill Ramsey with the Harrison County Senior Citizens Center.

Both the Salem and Clarksburg elections will be held on June 4.

Early voting starts on May 22 in Clarksburg.
