Buffalo Wild Wings in Bridgeport is helping out the Lt. James W. Hotsinpiller Jr. and Deputy U.S. Marshal Derek W. Hotsinpiller Memorial Scholarship Fund.

It will be donating a percentage of all its sales made on Wednesday night from 5 to 8 p.m.

Lt. James Hotsinpiller was a member of the Bridgeport Police Department for 27 years.

His son, Derek Hotsinpiller, was a Deputy U.S. Marshal and was killed in the line of duty in February 2011.

The money raised will go towards scholarships for students in Harrison County who want to pursue criminal justice, law enforcement, or social sciences.

This year, three new scholarships were given and five scholarships were renewed, all worth $500.

Matt Chipps, committee organizer and family friend of the Hotsinpillers, said events like this not only help the community, but help all of us remember the fallen.

"Fundraising, it helps keep Derek's memory alive, the saying is, 'A hero remembered never dies', and that's one thing we try to accomplish here," said Chipps.

The Fallen Stars Memorial 5K race is being held June 8. Registration is still open online until June 1,. and runner can also register the day of the race.
