Students from the Alderson-Broaddus College athletic training club won the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association Quiz Bowl on Friday, May 17th in Greenville, S.C. at the 2013 MAATA Symposium.

Students Jeff Gribble of Philippi, Jacob Hill of Clarksburg and Ashley Prince of Ravenswood held their ground, competing against the University of South Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Salisbury University in Maryland and Longwood University in Virginia.

A-B was the only school to get the final question correct, pushing them into the lead for the finish.

With support of the Student Government Association, A-B was able to travel and represent the state of West Virginia after winning the state competition that took place in March at the West Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association conference. The statewide competition was open to all Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education-accredited athletic training programs in West Virginia. A-B competed against Concord University, Marshall University, University of Charleston, West Virginia University and West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The students met three times a week throughout the spring semester to prepare for the Quiz Bowl tournaments. Their advisor is Noel Neptune, assistant professor of athletic training.

The National Athletic Trainers' Association is made up of ten districts; the winning team from each district receives an invitation to compete for the national championship at the 64th annual NATA meeting and clinical symposia in June in Las Vegas. Gribble, Hill and Prince will represent both A-B and NATA District III.
