The West Virginia University Fire Services Extension will give kids a chance to learn about being a firefighter.

The Extension is signing up students for its annual Junior Firefighter Academy.

The annual event gives kids a chance to practice firsthand the skills needed to become a firefighter as an adult.

Program coordinator Lanny Adkins said it's something many kids already are looking forward to.

"Their dad has been involved or their grandfather or something like that, and they want to get involved in it a little bit, and what we do, we give them a taste of all the different things that are going on," Adkins said.

The Academy will take place at Jackson's Mill in late June.

For more information, or to sign up, contact the extension office at 304-269-0875.
