Kristina Bandi

Branch Operations Manager,
SP Financial Strategies LLC
Wheeling, 28

Elm Grove-native Kristina Bandi is so happy to be back in her hometown doing a job she loves, she gives back to it frequently.

Bandi attended Frostburg State University, studying business administration with a focus on finance.

"I hate math, so that doesn't make any sense, but it was the hardest of all the majors and the focuses in business," Bandi explained with a laugh. "Frostburg's focus for finance was corporate, not personal finance, investing and planning, which is what I'm involved in now."

But her career has come full circle in more ways than one.

Bandi started working for Federated Investors in Pittsburgh — a mutual fund company where she worked in the broker-dealer service area. The company focused on training new hires — letting them spend the first two-and-a-half months studying to get their licenses, and then shadowing another person.

Word got around Wheeling that Bandi wanted to come home, and in October 2008 Bandi was hired to be administrative assistant at SP Financial Strategies where she continues to advance.

Her job in Pittsburgh was the opposite side of what she's doing now, which she says helps her understand what callers want and need.

Her favorite thing is getting to meet clients and work on their financial plans, and she likes looking for the minor details and filling in the blanks.

"I'm not coming up with the strategies," she said. "I'm not at that point and don't have that experience yet because it comes with years, but I think I'm headed in the right direction.

"I really like the supporting actress role; I enjoy letting my boss take control in meetings and answering the questions."

Bandi spends her free time with her family and volunteering with several organizations.

Bandi has served on the allocation panel for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley and volunteers for that group in several capacities; she is a member of the board of directors for Wheeling HealthRight Inc. and volunteers with the Tuberculosis Association for Ohio County.
