Cost of Living in Morgantown Exceeds National Average

Posted: Updated:

A study done by the WVU College of Business and Economics shows that Morgantown's cost of living is higher than the national average.

The Bureau of Business and Economic Research measures the price of health care, utilities and housing prices, to calculate the cost of living.

The cost of housing was 13 percentage points greater than the average, which is the main reason for the high cost of living.

"The housing targets a particular type of house. The survey overall looks at the cost of living for a fairly affluent family or household. With incomes of roughly above $100,000 a year," said Eric Bowen, a WVU economist.

The survey is based on 2,400 square foot houses with at least four bedrooms.

Other goods and services in the area were at, or below the national average.
