Barbour County Sheriff's Department Investigating ATV Accident

The Barbour County Sheriff's Department said Dillon Starkey, 13, was riding an ATV, when he attempted to cross Route 119 near Lower Hacker Road, just outside of Philippi.

Starkey pulled out in front of a van driven by Cindy Johnson, who tried to avoid hitting Starkey, but was unable to, according to the sheriff's department.

A medical helicopter flew Starkey to Ruby Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Johnson and a passenger were uninjured.

The investigating is ongoing.

The Philippi Volunteer Fire Department and Barbour County EMS also responded.

Officials are currently on the scene of an accident in Barbour County.

Barbour County 911 said the accident happened at the intersection of Route 119 and Hackers Creek Road and involved an ATV and another vehicle.

The 911 center said a medical helicopter is flying one person to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

That person's name and condition are unknown at this time.

The Barbour County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
