Women's Aid in Crisis Holds 26 Mile Awareness Walk

Posted: Updated:

Supporters of domestic violence organized a 26-mile walk to raise awareness and money for Women's Aid in Crisis on Saturday.

The walk started at the Elkins Train Depot, continued to Route 33, and ended at City Hall in Buckhannon.

About a dozen walkers did the fundraiser in stages.

Money raised was based on per mile or from a flat rate.

The money raised will go to the organization's 24-hour hotline.

Organizers said the idea was a little bit different than most fundraisers.

"There's lots of dinners and silent auctions and we're were looking for something a little bit different, a little challenging something people would be surprised about," said Melissa Thomas Vangundy, board president.

Buckhannon was chosen as the final destination because of the organization's first outreach program created there.
