Local Emergency Response Agencies Participate in Public Communications Exercise

Posted: Updated:

Emergency response agencies in several counties participated in a public communications exercise Wednesday.

Agencies in Harrison, Monongalia, Marshall and Ohio counties were given a mock disaster, a derecho, and worked to communicate with the public.

Agencies distributed information through the media, and online with social media.

"Obviously the tornados in Oklahoma City, and in and around that area. It's Hurricane season, and its the time of year we're going to see and flooding, so it's a way to go ahead and be prepared for when the time gets here," said Mike Wolfe, of MECCA 911.

If you live in Monongalia County, MECCA's new phone app could help during a real disaster.

The app allows users to see MECCA's social media status and get information on road closures and possible evacuation routes.

Android users can download the app here. Apple iPhone users can download the app here.
