'Mountain Quilt Quest Shop Hop' Kicks Off in West Virginia

CLARKSBURG -

The Mountain Quilt Quest Shop Hop kicked off on Wednesday.

Eleven quilt shops in West Virginia take part in this event, which is in its tenth year.

Each shop features a sesquicentennial themed quilt, and the visitors to each shop are entered into a drawing.

The Classic Quilt Shop in Clarksburg was filled with quilters who were hitting each stop on the quest.

"We came on up through Parkersburg and Ripley, this is our third stop today on the West Virginia Shop Hop. We're going to go through Morgantown, Buckhannon and Elkins hopefully tonight and then we're going to go in the morning and finish the shop hop, all 11 shops," explained Melinda Gibson of Huntington.

Owner of the Classic Quilt Shop Janet Baer said quilting is a big part of West Virginia history, and a wonderful hobby to take part in.

"Quilting is an artistic outlet for people. I think its about the camaraderie, the friends you make, it's a group thing. It's also a good way of doing good deeds, a lot of quilts are made for charity," said Baer.

The Mountain Quilt Quest Shop Hop ends this Saturday. For more information on the shop hop visit the website.

The Classic Quilt Shop will be moving locations to Bridgeport Hill Road in July.
