MARTINSBURG, WV (AP) — A former Berkeley County development official is the new director of the University of Charleston-Martinsburg campus.

Kathy Mason's appointment was effective this week.

She formerly served as business manager for the Berkeley County Development Authority.

Mason tells The Journal that she believes the University of Charleston's presence is a good opportunity for the area.

The university took over the former Mountain State University's campuses in Martinsburg and Beckley on Jan. 1 after Mountain State lost its accreditation.

University of Charleston regional president Jerry Forster says Mason's knowledge of the region's business climate will help the school to recruit students.
