Upshur County Community Corrections Program Looking to Relocate

Posted: Updated:

Upshur County's community corrections program wants to relocate.

Its director told the county commission Thursday that its current building doesn't have air conditioning and has an odor that sometimes forces employees to leave the building.

The commission said it's important to keep the program close to the courthouse for security purposes.

"Headquarters are presently in Upshur County, but each of the other counties have to have a building facility that folks can come to, report to do their drug testing and that type of thing regardless of where it is. There has to be one in each county," said Donnie Tenney, of the Upshur County Commission.

The community corrections program also serves Lewis and Braxton Counties.

The commission voted not to buy the building.

The community corrections board may have to call a special meeting to make a decision.
