Struck Sunday Evening with wind gusts to 100 MPH.
Friday, June 14 marked Flag Day across the country, and some local organizations took part in a sacred tradition to honor the symbol of America.
American Legion Post 13 held its annual flag-disposal ceremony in Clarksburg on Friday night. The organization collects ripped and worn flags all year, then burns the flags to pay its respects.
The American Legion said many community members are aware of the ritual, but others may not know how to dispose of their flags the right way.
"We try to educate the community, bring them all out, let them know that we're not doing something, you know, protesting the flag, we're just honoring it," said Michael Greaver of the American Legion.
The Elks Lodge in Buckhannon also held a similar event.
Flag Day became official in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson.
