10 Counties Participate in Emergency Training Exercise

Emergency Services from 10 counties were in Barbour County on Saturday for a training exercise.

Those counties represented Region 4 of the state's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The workshop and Responder Education Day helped first responders learn ways of helping their communities.

Classes ranged from dealing with the media to updates with radio communications and landing zones.

Classes in dealing with hazardous materials and working with Hospice were also held.

"Biggest part of this being a paramedic also is my patients benefit. Every time a class my patients and my future patients will benefit from my education that I get. So it's not much a brushing up, it's maybe you catch one or two things new, and it will benefit the next patient," said Cindy Hart, Barbour County Office of Emergency Management.

Hart said Region 4 applies for a grant to conduct this training.
