One person is dead Monday after a vehicle accident on Interstate 79 in Monongalia County, according to MECCA 911.
The accident happened around 12:12 p.m. near the 150 mile marker of I-79 south.
State police said a 1997 Ford Explorer, being operated by Samantha Schaub, 21 of Indiana, crossed the median and collided head-on with a 2006 Jeep operated by Carl Hautmann, 46 of Maryland, that was heading south.
Schaub was pronounced at the scene. Shaub's car also caught fire after the collision, but Schaub was removed from the car before the vehicle became engulfed.
Hautmann and four passengers, three of which are juveniles, were transported to the hospital. There's no word on their conditions.
Both southbound lanes were closed following the accident but have since reopened, according to West Virginia 511.
There's no word on what caused the accident. State Police are investigating.
