WVU Journalism School to Provide New Social Media Minor

Posted: Updated:

Journalists use social media, like Facebook and Twitter, every day.

Now students at West Virginia University can learn about social media as part of their curriculum.

Starting this fall, the School of Journalism will offer a minor in strategic social media.

The class is completely web based and is designed to teach students more than just how to post or tweet.

"It really comes down to how companies, organizations, and brands are utilizing social media to build an audience and get their message out into the public. It's a way for them to engage with the consumer in a place where the consumer is, which is social media," said Chad Mezera, of WVU.

The minor in strategic social media will be available to any WVU student not just journalism majors.
