Two new construction projects will be underway soon at North Marion High School.

The Marion County Board of Education has awarded Bear Contracting the contract for a paving project at the school.

The $240,000 project includes paving the parking lots and the roads to the athletic facilities.

It also includes laying the base for an eight lane track, something Superintendent Gary Price said Marion County has needed for years.

"We'd like to get back in that mix to be able to host track meets in Marion County. I think that the proof is in the pudding that when you do have your own facility, it builds interest, and you get more kids willing and able to participate," Price said.

Price said he hopes North Marion will host a track meet in the spring of 2014.
