WV Wildlife Center in Upshur County Holds Celebration to Honor State's Birthday

Posted: Updated:

The West Virginia State Wildlife Center in Upshur County held a celebration to honor the state's birthday Thursday.

The wildlife center treated everyone to a birthday cake and lemonade with activities for kids.

A ladies tea party, Irish music, and a civil war era cannon firing were also featured.

The wildlife center holds a celebration every June 20, but this year it wanted to pull out all the stops.

"West Virginia was the only state to be formed out of the Civil War, and of course we have a diverse history going back to that time, and it's great to celebrate that," said Gene Thorn, of the Wildlife Center.

People could also see many of the state's wildlife that's open at the wildlife center located in French Creek.
