Senator Jay Rockefeller has announced the winner of a contest he launched on his Facebook page showcasing photographs of prominent locations in West Virginia that highlight the pride many people have for their counties.

The contest wrapped up on West Virginia's birthday, June 20, with nearly 6,000 votes, according to a news release from Senator Rockefeller's office. Upshur County won the contest with 822 votes. Mingo County earned second place, followed by Nicholas County in third place.

"No people have such strong a pride in their home state as our fellow West Virginians," Rockefeller said in the news release. "Upshur County certainly has a special place in my heart as well," said Rockefeller, who spent three years in Buckhannon as president of West Virginia Wesleyan.

Senator Rockefeller asks that people who voted for Upshur County submit their favorite photographs to be featured in a special Upshur County photo album.
