2 Dead in Ritchie County Accident


The Ritchie County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal accident.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Simington Drive near Ellenboro.

Sheriff deputies said Cheryl Horner of Pennsboro, and a female juvenile passenger were traveling in a 2005 Dodge Ram Truck westbound on Route 50, when a 2007 Mac water tanker truck, owned by Jay Bee Oil and Gas Incorporated of Union, NJ traveling south bound on Simington Drive struck Horner's vehicle, officials said.

The truck driver has been identified has Caitlin Hines, of Parkersburg.

Both Horner and the female passenger were pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.

Hines was taken to Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

A 2013 Kenworth tanker truck, also traveling westbound on Route 50, and carrying crude oil was also struck by the water tanker truck. Its owned by West Virginia Oil Gathering LLC of Frazeysburg, Ohio.

The driver, Andy Cornell of Belpre, Ohio wasn't listed as receiving any injuries.

The West Virginia State Police, Volunteer Fire Departments from Ellenboro, Pennsboro, and Harrisville, W.Va. Department of Highways, Public Safety Commission, Pennsboro Police Department, Ritchie County Emergency Management, and Ritchie County Ambulance Authority all responded.

The incident is still under investigation.
