CTA Hosts Golf Tournament to Raise Money for Athletes

Posted: Updated:

The Champion Training Academy is a competitive cheerleading gym. Practices and competition are time consuming and expensive.

CTA is holding its inaugural golf tournament to raise money for its athletes for different reasons.

"We have well over a hundred athletes," said Nicholas Austin, CTA President Boosters. "What we do is competitive cheerleading, this is a way to help keep it affordable for all of our athletes and then do some future endeavors."

CTA plans to start a special needs team and scholarships this fall. The academy also hopes to start a fund for family who have come on hard times but want to keep their kids involved in the activities.

The golf tournament was a four-person scramble. With 108 golfers, Mountaineer Golf Course said this was a great first year event.

"It's the first annual and this is one of the most well organized event I've seen as far as being their first year," said Don Schillinger, Head Golf Pro at Mountaineer Golf Course. "This is going to be an ongoing event. And I think we've already got it penciled in for next year for June 21st."

The golfers paid an entry fee, there was raffles, and games. But Nicholas Austin said that it was the Morgantown businesses that really helped out.

"We're doing a lot raffles and giveaways a lot of things like that. A lot of area businesses in Morgantown helped us out," said Austin. "We're doing sponsor size on each hole so each business that has sponsored us is getting the recognition on the hole. And that's really the way you make money at these type of events."

The CTA does hope to hold the event for many years to come. If you'd like to know more about the CTA or Mountaineer Golf Course visit their websites or call Mountaineer Golf Course at 304-328-5520.
