The conglomerate that carries his name went on to lead ambitious projects such as paving a highway across the Andes mountains and through the Amazon rainforest into Peru, and linking Miami's Metrorail to the city's airport. It also formed a consortium with other firms and was awarded contracts for four of the 12 stadiums that hosted games for the World Cup that ended this month.

The need to serve rural West Virginia counties has made Catholic Charities West Virginia go mobile.

The Wheeling-based non-profit has started a Mobile Outreach and WellnessWorks Food Pantry to distribute food, wellness information and other programs throughout Wirt, Ritchie, Roane, Calhoun, Gilmer and Doddridge counties.

Planned monthly visits to the Amma Senior and Community Building in Roane County are scheduled to start in July.

Community volunteers will be needed each month to load and unload food from the van, arrange food for selection and assist families with food selection as well as greet families.

People and families who are at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines as well as West Virginians who receive SNAP benefits from the Department of Health and Human Resources will be eligible to receive assistance.

When families choose to participate in the Catholic Charities WellnessWorks food program, general health information will be collected and information will be provided about healthy food choices and wellness.

Catholic Charities will be collaborating with other community wellness and social services each month to provide things such as health screenings and cooking demonstrations to promote healthier lifestyles.

Mobile Outreach and WellnessWorks Food Pantry and food handlers training is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 8 at Amma Senior and Community Building with lunch provided after the training.
