Don Harris lost out to Bill McCombs for the mayor seat in Monongah this June and recently requested a recount after losing by just one vote.

The town of Monongah held a recount for mayor Thursday evening at town hall. Out of the 198 ballots both Harris and McCombs received 58 votes each for a tie.

In the end McCombs was named mayor after Town Council pulled his name from a hat.

"The old timers always say that all politics are local and by golly when you are in a town election a municipal election everybody knows you. Everybody is interested, they had and excellent turnout in the town of Monongah," said Janice Cosco, Marion County Clerk.

The results are not official just yet. Cosco said she will contact the state department Friday to make it official and see if there is anything else that must be done. The results are unofficial until the state approves it.
