D&E Upward Bound Supporting Kids' Quest For College

Posted: Updated:

Students in the Randolph County area are keeping up their effort to prepare for college.

The Upward Bound program at Davis and Elkins College is in its last few weeks.

The program provides resources for low-income students or students who will be the first in their families to go to college.

Both students and staff agreed the program is a valuable experience.

"These programs provide equal opportunity to students who would traditionally not have accessibility to college and the resources needed at the same rate as their peers of higher incomes," said D&E's Carol Suder-Howes.

"It's really hard, especially in economic times like this, to further my education and make myself better without programs like this, so that's exactly why it's important," said Elkins High School Student Noah O'Brien.

The students will wrap up their experience next month with a trip to New York City.
