Local High School Golfer Cherishes Opportunity To Play Greenbrier Course

BRIDGEPORT -

The Old White TPC course at the Greenbrier Resort can be an eye-popping experience for golfers of all ages.

"It was crazy amazing," East Fairmont sophomore Bailey Frederick said. "It was definitely different. It was not something that I see really at all."

But there's a distinct difference between being a spectator, opposed to an actual participant. Bailey Frederick was given the unique chance to play the PGA-level course only a few days before the pros.

"I played it on Tuesday," Frederick replied. "There was a big banquet before. It was hosted by the First Tee program. It was also a scramble. I played with professional Jonathon Byrd. I mean, I was the only girl playing, representing all of the girls in West Virginia. It was just crazy."

Bailey Frederick just wrapped up her 9th grade school year at East Fairmont High School, and already she averages 240 yards off the tee. Not too shabby for a 15-year-old.

"Yeah, not too bad," she said.

Having the opportunity to play the Old White TPC is the least of her accomplishments. Frederick was also the only female golfer to compete at the varsity level in Marion County this year.

"Definitely being the only girl in Marion County is different; it's cool. I was the only freshman that started varsity, especially being a girl and going out and playing against some of the guys that have been out there even longer. Competing for that spot against some upperclassmen," she said.

It's a memory she said she will cherish for the rest of her life. But for now, it's time to get to work.

"I'm definitely looking to go to college for golf, hopefully somewhere. I just want to continue to get better. That's all I want to do," Frederick said.
