Child Poverty Forum Held in Clarksburg

Posted: Updated:

Children and Poverty in West Virginia was the topic Tuesday evening at a public forum in Clarksburg.

The North Central West Virginia Democracy for America held the forum at the Caperton Center in Clarksburg.

Various speakers addressed how poverty affects children and their families, how it affects the state economically, and how politicians are handling the issue in Charleston.

"It's going to take a community to make it happen, not a legislature, legislature is good," said social worker Wayne Worth. "Good policy is good to stop poverty, but good policy and community action is what is really going to address this issue."

John Unger, the majority leader of the West Virginia state senate and chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Children and Poverty, was the keynote speaker.
