North Central Regional Jail Impacted by Area Power Outage

Posted: Updated:

MonPower customers around the area are without electricity after a line of storms moved through the area.

North Central Regional Jail Administrator George Trent said the jail in Doddridge County has been without electricity since 8 p.m. Tuesday. "Everything has been going smoothly, counselors have been talking to all the inmates to check on them and see if they need anything", Trent said.

A generator powers minimal amenities at the facility including some lights, emergency outlets, and food service has been operating as it normally would. Trent said booking officers aren't able to enter information for new inmates into the computer when new prisoners arrive and that they have to keep track of it on paper. The generator isn't able to power the air conditioning system, and visitation had to be canceled Wednesday and Thursday due to the lack of electricity.

Trent anticipates that electricity will be restored soon to allow operations to continue as normal. MonPower estimates that the majority of Greenwood customers will be restored by midnight on July 12, with the remaining customers' service restored by noon on July 13.
