West Virginia's congressional delegation has urged President Barack Obama to review and approve Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's request for federal disaster aid as a result of flooding from severe weather in mid-June.

Tomblin made his request July 9. The West Virginia delegation sent its letter June 11. The storms, which occurred from June 13-20, created damage in Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis, Mason and Roane counties that resulted in flooding, mudslides and landslides.

The delegation's letter stated that members are proud of the work already done by local citizens, first responders and National Guard troops.

"This extreme weather caused a path of destruction through communities that are home to some of West Virginia's most vulnerable citizens – the elderly, the disabled and those who live on a fixed income," the letter reads. "… We trust that you will do everything in your power to make sure that West Virginians receive the help they need and deserve."
