UPDATE: Preston County Sheriff's Department Employee Let Go After Releasing False Information

Posted: Updated:

Update

The information in the original story, which was released to WBOY from the Preston County Sheriff's Department, is incorrect, according to the sheriff's department.

The employee who released the information has been let go and no longer works at the sheriff's department, according to officials.

Original Story

The Preston County Sheriff's Office said it will no longer accept certificates from certain instructors for concealed weapons permits.

The sheriff's office said some of the instructors won't sign a letter confirming they teach the course according to West Virginia Code.

Those instructors are Michael Neely, John Millay, Jason Lanham, Justin Prickett, and Darral Bennett.

McFly Outdoors, located in the former Jerry's Sporting Goods stores, in Horner and Flatwoods, issued a clarification July 23 stating that it is not affiliated with Michael Neely. "We pride ourselves on the fact that we absolutely do teach our courses to code," said Kate McWhorter, owner.

Call the Sheriff's Department at 304-329-1611 for more information.
