J.F. Allen Company Holds Open House in Randolph County

The J.F. Allen Company held a grand opening Tuesday for its new de-icing salt facility.

The facility replaces a tarp covered salt storage pile.

The Durbin Greenbrier Valley Railroad delivers the salt on a CSX rail hub from Grafton.

Company officials said the new facility will store up to 35,000 tons of salt at full capacity.

They said it's the state's only rail salt facility and will be a big help during the winter.

"So in times of difficult weather when the river barges can't flow up the Ohio or Kanawha, then the state still has access of salt through our facility," said Gregory Hadjis, of J.F. Allen Company.

J.F. Allen has been in the road salt business for seven years.

Its new facility will serve 16 counties and more than 30 Division of Highways facilities.
