Nominations are being accepted for the seventh annual Spirit of Philanthropy Awards, given by the West Virginia Grantmakers at its annual conference.

"Since 2007, these awards celebrate individuals and programs that strive to make a positive impact through philanthropy in their communities," WV Grantmakers President and CEP, Paul Daugherty, said in a news release. "We welcome the public to recognize those that advance philanthropy in communities locally and across the state by nominating someone or a program today."

WV Grantmakers is the state's network of philanthropy that serves staff, volunteers and trustees of West Virginia's community, private, family and corporate foundations, giving programs and philanthropists. It was founded in 1993 and is one of 34 regional associations throughout the country.

The awards consist of three main types: the Critical Impact Award, the Volunteer Leadership Award and the Staff Leadership Award.

The Volunteer Leadership Award is for an individual who has exhibited an extraordinary commitment to philanthropy in West Virginia. The 2012 honoree was Richard Jarrell of Beckley.
